Each card holds a certain point value. Number cards two through ten have a point value equal to the card number. For example a four of diamonds holds a total point value of four. Face cards: Jack, Queen and King hold a point value of 10. Aces are valued at either 1 or 11, whichever a player prefers
Online blackjack games have the player facing the dealer as computerized cards are dealt. The dealer receives two cards first then the player receives two cards. This is referred to as the initial deal. Both player cards and one dealer card are dealt face up.

Once cards are revealed, a player is faced with the decision to play those two cards or take additional cards without going over 21. If the decision to stay is made, a player selects "Stand". If the decision is made to keep going, a player selects "Hit".
The dealer's second card is flipped over once a player 'stands'. Whoever has the higher hand without going over 21 wins that hand.
