Dutch government to run online poker room
CryptoLogic has signed a three-year licensing agreement with Holland Casino to provide the Dutch operator with poker and casino software.
The new site is to be run by Holland Casino for the Dutch government, and will launch in June 2007 serving only players in the Netherlands.
Last year the Swedish government launched its online poker room and it looks like more the European governments want a piece of the action.

EU may challenge UIGEA
U.S. restrictions on online gambling may be challenged by the European Union, the bloc's top financial regulator said on Tuesday.
"In my view it is probably a restrictive practice and we might take it up in another fora," EU Internal Market Commissioner Charlie McCreevy told the European Parliament.
The United States was protecting its own gambling industry by stopping foreign companies from entering the online betting sector, McCreevy said

Australian women and seniors drive the market
Women and seniors are Australia's fastest growing audience for video games according to a new study by the IEAA (Interactive Entertainment Association of Australia).
The report found that 41 per cent of respondent gamers were female, with 8 per cent over 60. The average age of the Australian gamer was found to have risen by four years to 28, with the report concluding that the average age would rise to 42 by 2014.

New gambling zones in Russia
The Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a new bill to regulate the activities of casinos in Russia. There are now four special gambling zones in Russia. These are:
Kaliningrad, Russia's exclave on the Baltic Sea, Krasnodar in the south, Altai in southwest Siberia and Primorye in the far east. All of these are very distant regions from Moscow, which means the end to any gambling plans in the capital city.
Kaliningrad however is snuggled between Lithuania and Poland on the Baltic Sea within easy access from any part of Europe. Geographically it has the most to gain from the bill. The other areas are just too distant.
