Blackjack, which is also know as Vingt et Un and 21 or
Pontoon as played in France and the UK, is a simple game enjoyed worldwide. The game has translated well into the online casino model, it is so simple to play that you don't only find this game at
online casinos, you also find it as a side-game at online
bingo and poker sites.
Effectively the player has to get 21 or closest to and beat the dealer (house). The game starts with two cards being dealt to each player and the dealer. The dealer only shows one of his cards and you have to aim to get a higher score than the dealer, but still remain at 21, lower, or bust! Remember the dealer has a 1 point edge, this means if he is dealt a picture card and a 10, he can claim 21 and a blackjack.
Once you have received your cards, if you believe it is necessary to receive another card to beat the dealer, you ask for him to deal you a "hit". You are not compelled to take another card and you can "stick". As soon as all the players are happy with their hand or have "bust" the dealer turns over his second card. If he has less than a 17 point score, he is compelled by the rules to take another card (although this rule can vary). At this point the game ends with either the dealer or the players winning. Essentially the winner is the player with the highest score of 21 or lower.
If you are dealt a ten or picture card with an Ace in your first two cards, you have
blackjack and you win automatically.
