How to Play Craps Hedge Bets
Playing
online craps is very similar to playing the game in a normal casino, although things like dice control just don't count. It is best that you familiarize yourself with the rules and the different types of bets that can be made in this game, so you get the full benefit of playing online.
A hedge bet in craps entails splitting one wager into two smaller wagers. Nothing too complicated about that! The reason for this is to decrease your chances of losing, it means you are able to stay in the game for a longer time with an initially small sum of money. As you win, the prizes will also be smaller, but at least you still win. The hedge bet takes place in the come out roll.
When a new game begins with a new shooter in a betting round, the "Come out Roll" is the first roll of the dice. This happens when the previous shooter fails to make a seven out or "Point".
The hedge bet is not normally recommended for experienced players, but it is a good way to get a beginner used to this type of bet and the game, with less of a chance of losing. To do this you are first required to place a passline wager, this is dependent on the table limit; but for arguments sake let's just say a $10 wager!
You place the $10 wager and then place $2 on "any craps", this is the hedge. The shooter rolls the dice and if a 2 - 3 or 12 comes up, your $10 is lost but you still win in the "any craps". In fact you win $14, so you make your $10 and $2 back with an extra $2. So you can see how the hedge bet actually allows you to get your money back, win a little and play for longer.
