2009 Season NFL Betting Preview

With the return of a healthy Tom Brady, the New England Patriots are once again the front-runner to win their 4th Super Bowl of the decade. It is highly unlikely that Brady will put up the numbers he did in 2007 before his season-ending injury in '08, but it's safe to say that he will challenge for the most touchdown passes thrown. Without Brady - a former NFL MVP and 2x Super Bowl MVP - the Pats missed the playoffs after going 18-1 in 2007/08. Of course, last year's Super Bowl champs, the Pittsburgh Steelers, will look to spoil Brady's return.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger engineered an incredible 78 yard drive with 2:37 remaining in the 4th quarter to win an NFL record 6th Super Bowl title for the franchise. With no significant personnel losses, the Steelers will surely be in the mix come playoff time...

Don't expect another slow start from Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning even with the loss of Head Coach Tony Dungy and long-time Offensive Coordinator Tom Moore. Manning finished strong at the end of last year's season. The smart money is on the Patriots, Steelers, or Colts representing the AFC in Super Bowl XLIV.

In the NFC, the East division is by far the strongest in the entire league. Look for the team that remains healthiest to make it to the playoffs. There is a possibility that three of the six teams making the playoffs in the NFC will be from this division. The Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants have the best chance to survive the NFC East. The Dallas Cowboys can't afford any losses to lesser opponents if they want to make the playoffs out of the East.

Last year's Super Bowl finalist, the Arizona Cardinals, will make the post-season due to their weak divisional opponents. If the New Orleans Saints defence can play up to their potential as a unit, the team should surprise this year.

On any given Sunday, even the favourites lose. A little risk goes a long way in NFL betting!
