Bodog Seeks Official Entry into UK Market
One of the gambling industry's most popular companies,
Bodog, has applied for an official license to operate a remote casino and conduct betting activities in the United Kingdom. The founder of Bodog, Calvin Ayre, cited business, as well as personal reasons for expanding into this market. "My roots are in the United Kingdom; my grandparents hailed from Scotland and England, and I feel a lot of connection to the UK," he wrote on his blog this week.
Bodog is one of only a few companies thus far to apply officially for a license, with most simply ignoring the regulatory legislation put in by the UK government, possibly as a protest against the 15% remote gambling tax imposed on remote gambling operators. To obtain the license, Bodog needs to prove to the UK Gambling Commission that it is a 'fit and proper' operator, meeting all the strict standards set up by the Commission.
